Get a taste for Tanzania on this six day adventure taking you to the Selous Game Reserve and to the tropical Indian Ocean island of Zanzibar. Starting and ending in Dar es Salaam this holiday is a whistle stop tour of the country, combining the two main draws, safari and beach.
You will spend two nights in a wilderness camp right on the banks of the Rufiji River at the edge of the Selous Game Reserve. As the largest protected game reserve on the African continent the Selous is a vast expanse comprising of forests, grassy plains, mountains and open woodland. Twice the size of the Serengeti and three times the size of Kruger the Selous is home to a rich diversity of wildlife and offers a great opportunity to see both small creatures and larger animals in their natural habitat.
Following your adventures in the wilderness you will escape to the beautiful island of Zanzibar. Located in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of mainland Tanzania, Zanzibar is an island rich in history and with a melting pot of cultural influences, from Arabic to African and European.

On arrival into Dar es Salaam Airport you will be met and taken to your hotel in the centre of the city. Depending on your arrival time you may get the opportunity to explore the city. Once a small fishing village Dar es Salaam is now a thriving economic hub, with a buzzing nightlife, great restaurants and a rich culture.
Cultural activities such as the Cultural Village, city tours or exploring the local markets give an insight into the country of Tanzania, or, if you prefer, the city has several beautiful beaches to explore.
Overnight at Holiday Inn Dar es Salaam
After breakfast at your hotel you will be collected for your transfer to the airport to join your 90 minute flight to the Selous Game Reserve.
On arrival, you will be met by a guide and vehicle from Selous Wilderness Camp and taken to the camp for a delicious lunch. Situated on the banks of the Rufiji River the camp has only seven tents, including two family tents giving guests to the property a personalised experience. With shared lounge and dining areas this camp offers a tranquil retreat in the heart of the wilderness.
After a freshen up and relax its time for your first game drive, just a short drive away you will be in the Selous Game Reserve, the largest in Tanzania and home to a great diversity of wildlife and landscapes.
Overnight in Selous Wilderness Camp
While the morning and afternoon game drives are the highlight of your stay there are other activities to enjoy from the camp. Join a walking safari to explore the terrain on foot or take a boat ride on the river, looking out for hippos, crocs and the abundance of birdlife.
Cultural village tours give you an opportunity to meet the locals and see how they live or simply spend your afternoons relaxing in camp, enjoying views of the river and chatting with your fellow guests.
Overnight in Selous Wilderness Camp
After a final early morning game drive and a delicious breakfast its time to leave the camp and head back to the airport to connect with your flight to the Indian Ocean island of Zanzibar.
Located just off the coast of mainland Tanzania, Zanzibar is a vibrant island with a long and complex history. Once a key stop on trading routes, the island was host to the buying and selling of slaves during the slave trade. This dark history is remembered in the capital of Stone Town with memorials that are well worth a visit.
The island is synonymous with spice, spice farm tours are popular and the culture blend of Asian, African, Indian and European has resulted in delicious cuisine and a fascinating culture.

Spend your time relaxing on the beach or by the pool, soaking in the sun and looking out over the ocean. If exploring is more your thing then head over to Stone Town and take a tour to learn more about the history and culture.
